Some of My Favorite Things: Faicco's Proscuitto (a/k/a Lard) Bread
I'm a huge fan of Chinese char siu bao -baked pork buns. I've sampled them at every bakery in every Chinatown I've been to in North America, not to mention Hong Kong. So when I saw the big puffy mounds of homemade proscuitto bread a/k/a lard bread at Faicco's, my eyes lit up. Though they look more like Momofuku Milk Bar's Volcanos, Faicco's bread is light as air with parmesan cheese baked in and a ring of char siu, I mean minced proscuitto, so you get meat in every bite, the secret to a great pork bun. Grazie mille and xie xie.

Do they bake it?
Otherwise, what is the source?

I think they bake them at the Brooklyn location and send them (still warm) to Bleecker.

Do they have it year round?
Do they have other bakery items?
This post just took me by surprise.
If I get around to checking it out, will ask to verify, not that I am doubting you.
Thanks for the info.

It is the best. I've bought it there and I'm pretty sure the sign said it was from Parisisi, where I have also bought it.

Don't recall the price, but it came in a large bagel-shaped loaf as well as an Italian bread shape. Also available at Parisi, which I mis-spelled above: http://parisibakery.com/our_location....

I know Faicco's and Parisi, no addresses needed, just not about the lard bread.
Is it a full sized Italian loaf size? Usually, it is found in the smallish round you described. Hoping to find a bigger one. Well, more important that it is good, of course.

Well I don't think they actually call it lard bread, but prosciutto bread. The Parisi ones are quite large and the very best I have had anywhere.

I put Faicco's info so you can call to see if they have it and what the price is.

You don't mean that lard isn't a health food!? It is absolutely fabulous, the best breakfast with coffee. I do not want to know the calorie/fat count.
