Where to get Corned Beef and Cabbage for LUNCH today?

chaddict Mar 17, 2010 10:07 AM

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My co-workers and I are looking for an Irish feast today. The caveat is it must be lunch. Now I know that there are pubs out there that are not normally open for lunch but will be today. Trouble is I don't have time to call them all and the handful I have tried so far are not answering their phones (maybe too early right now but I go into a meeting soon). Must be in SF. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I like Irish Bank, but of course today it will be swarming with people. Elephant and Castle might work.

Lefty O'Douls on Geary/Powell for a slice of SF-eclectic mix of regulars/tourists! and inexpensive!

Temple Bar on Polk has always had it in the past.

Thanks, all! Well, being on the Presidio, we opted for something close: Liverpool Lil's. We were hoping for one of the many Irish pubs around the Richmond but couldn't get our acts together. Lil's was fairly good but the portions were on the small side and the price was $18.62 with tax! Corned beef cut much too thin for my liking. Oh, well! Next year! At least St. Joseph's day is around the corner. Mmmmmm, zeppole....

Too late now for lunch, but Miller's East Coast West will no doubt offer it all day. And Tommy's Joynt.

When I was growing up in Connecticut we called it New England Boiled Dinner.

Corned Beef and Cabbage is the regular Thursday lunch special at Marin Joe's and at San Rafael Joe's.

I haven't had it at either place, but saw it being served at Marin Joe's. Boy, did it look good!

here's another not-in-SF every Thursday Special: in Petaluma, Pete's Henny Penny serves a generous plate of corned beef and cabbage, potato and carrots + bread + soup. I can't finish it in one sitting and the leftovers make a great snack.
