Carmen's Kitchen Closed

StevieC Mar 17, 2010 07:48 AM

Despite living just a few minutes away, I only noticed yesterday that Carmen’s Kitchen is closed. According to the sign in the window, coming soon is an “El Paisa Butchery.” I was actually surprised it remained open as long as it did after DiNunzio’s legal troubles. Too bad.

I remember enjoying that place (reviewed it as part of an Eastie roundup for The Dig), though I hadn't been back in years. The big guy was always holding court in the corner.

Yeah, I just called the place and the number is no longer in service, so it's definitely shut down. So El Paisa is going to open a butchery next door, huh? Interesting....

The El Paisa butcher could be interesting if definitely related to the restaurant as they have made their own morcilla and other products for the restaurant, although unfortunately the restaurant has scaled back its Columbian menu offerings. Based on the location, what they have done, and the english "butchery" I would assume its associated, but keep in mind that "Paisa" refers to a large region/population so its entirely possible an unrelated business could use that name.

The El Paisa logo/script on the "coming soon" sign in the window was identical to the restaurant's, so fairly safe to say they are related.
