Thank you and trip summary
Thanks to everyone who gave us suggestions for our recent trip to NYC. Despite the stormy weather we had a great time and some memorable dining experiences.
On Friday we started out with a late lunch at the Breslin Bar. It was a great setting and the food was very good. My husband enjoyed his lamb burger and my bubble and squeak was just what it should be. The staff there were accommodating and it is a fun place to dine.
We had a late dinner after our play at Seasonal. Another good choice. The decor was attractive and the noise level was not too bad. The potato and dill soup was very good as was the schnitzel. The service was just ok and they messed up our order (brought the wrong dish ), but it was quickly corrected and overall it was a nice dinner.
Saturday we had lunch at the Carnegie deli for the experience. My husband thought his corned beef and pastrami sandwhich was obscene (as in way too large), but the best versions of both meats he had ever had. It would have been ok if we could have taken it home, but staying in a hotel it was not an option. Their potato pancakes were also very good, but of course the service was very much NYC deli. Which if you are expecting it is ok.
Saturday night was the dining highlight of our trip - despite being dropped off a block too late in the downpour by a not to accommodating cabbie (one and fifteen are not the same number) and walking into Jean George somewhat worse for the wear because of that, we had an excellent meal. The service was attentive without being smothering and their recommendations for my husband's wine pairing was right on. The dining room is very attractive and the noise level was reasonable. Our food was innovative without being overly fussy and I thought their crab sesame toast was excellent. My husband enjoyed his lamb with chili sauce and the dessert choices (we had a spice assortment and a citrus assortment) had more hits than misses. The lime sorbet in particular was wonderful. All in all well worth the cost.
Brunch on Sunday at Bar American was good - nothing spectacular, but certainly acceptable and our dinner at Keen's that night was great. The decor is a lot of fun and the steaks were excellent as were the sides. The only slight misstep was that there were ice crystals in the ice cream for the butterscotch sundae. This is actually a trend I have found over the past few months in several upscale restaurants in a few cities. It is very odd. It is not a lot of ice, but it is there. I have to wonder if the ice cream manufacturers have changed their mixtures or their shipping methods.
We ended out trip with breakfast at Clinton Street Bakery where my husband enjoyed their blueberry pancakes and their odd, but good maple/caramel sauce. I had their eggs Benedict and thought they were quite good. It was an easy walk to the subway to the JFK airtrain and on the way home on the plane there was a Google ad with a search for blueberry pancakes in NYC that showed Clinton Street as the answer. My husband was quite amused. All in all a great trip and thanks to everyone for your thoughtful recommendations.
Thanks for the report. Did you guys do a la carte at Jean Georges or a tasting menu? I've never tried Clinton Street Bakery but it's been on my list.

I love Clinton St. Baking Co. I usually go around early afternoon on a weekday and never have to wait. Love those blueberry pancakes (natch) and their breakfast sandwich is good too.

Sounds like great eating. We had dinner at Seasonal Sat. night (on that very soggy night), we had excellent service, food was very good, but a bit too "haute" for us and U thought the wine list was quite pricey.
In retrospect, we decided we liked Blue Gans better for our Austrian/German fix.
Ah, and yes, those sandwiches at the Carnegie, we usually get three or four meals out of one :), We did take a friend from out of town once who finished a combo of pastrami/corned beef and chopped liver, it was quite a site to see :)
