London Birthday Dinner for College student abroad

My husband and I are visiting our son in London in April and want a place to celebrate his 21st birthday. We will be in Chelsea and he is in Islington, but we can meet anywhere. I am inclined toward more traditional cuisines, i.e. French , Italian, Indian, Mediterranean , rather than anything too experimental because he is unlikely to try anything he hasn't heard of! I am looking for someplace fun , not old fashioned or stodgy. Any ideas?

Another good option and also run by the Soho House team (Dean St is as well) is Pizza East. Young buzzy spot, beautiful room and pretty solid pizzas and Italian dishes. There's also pretty trendy bar/lounge/ perfomance space in the basement which may get you some credits w/ your son.

On a side note I actually prefer the restaurant in Shoreditch house. Though as a member you can only bring 3 people in. So I have taken larger groups to Pizza East w/ great success and then a few of us sneak off after to the roof or the games room of Shoreditch house.

Dean St Townhouse in Soho - buzzy atmosphere and good food.
