Rest. Mas les Cols

Wanted to take a day away from Barcelona and take a drive to have lunch at this restaurant mentioned in Sunday's NYT's. It sounds like a worthy trip. Unfortunately it will not be possible for us this time around.

The article mentioned the trend of gastrohotels and the well known Spanish chefs interested in pursuing this venue. Interestingly Akelare in SS will become a gastrohotel.

Has anybody been to Mas les Cols? Is it worth the while to take a drive to Olot to dine here? Thanks.

HERE'S A SNIPPET OF THE ARTICLE: AT Mas Les Cols, a hotel and restaurant in the Spanish town of Olot in Catalonia, chickens roam free, surrounded by a 13th-century mas, or farmhouse, and a cluster of one-bedroom glass modules. The birds make for a pleasantly rustic element, but their winged brethren don’t fare quite as well in the kitchen nearby. There, the chef Fina Puigdevall has earned two Michelin stars for the artfully reinterpreted Catalan cuisine she creates for her guests.

Spain The five pavilions at Les Cols, which Ms. Puigdevall opened in 2005 on the grounds of her family’s ancestral home, are among a number of so-called gastrohotels that have been popping up like porcini mushrooms alongside some of Spain’s most acclaimed restaurants. Some are opened by the chefs themselves, others with (mostly) silent partners who allow the chefs — and their restaurants — to take center stage.

    1. The NY Times article was interesting, especially the part about Ferran Adria's plans to spend more time at his El Bulli Hotel. We're going to have dinner there in July. The link below from Tripadvisor contains some very favourable reviews of Les Cols.

What a spectacular review, definetely seems worthy of a visit to both the hotel and restaurant. Thank you for sharing.

Have fun at El Bulli hotel and hope to see your review.
