Back Bay birthday dinner for College Students

I'm turning 19 and want to have my birthday dinner someplace CH would approve of within a mile or so from Northeastern. It'd be me and 5 or so of my friends. Any recs?

Some notes:
The people I'll be eating with aren't exactly "with it" when it comes to food. Two of them have chosen to have celebratory dinners at everyone's favorite Cheesecake Factory within the past year. I want a place they can enjoy, but isn't a death trap.

We're all underage and won't be spending money on drinks. I'd prefer a place that isn't pretentious, and won't treat us differently because of our ages. I know a lot of places automatically reserve their worst service for college students.

    1. Is everyone paying for their own meal or are you? What's the budget?

Budget is $13-20 for entrees. Appetizers, dessert, tax, and tip don't matter

          • I’m not sure what “CH” means, but Myer’s + Chang may be a good option. The food is somewhat hit or miss, but it has some good items and a good atmosphere for your group. The Franklin Café and Masa are also good options.

Good recs already. I'd add Gaslight which is a fun reasonably priced place and in the same style food, Petit Robert Bistro is all <$20 but not as "fun" an atmosphere. Unadventurous people can always get steak frites or a fish dish. Brasserie Jo is another option altho a tad pricier.

If the OP is concerned about being treated poorly due to their being college students, Petit Robert is about the last place I would suggest. I have repeatedly seen them dish out crappy and indifferent service for little (if any) reason at all.

                        Have never had that problem.

One more thought. If your group would like a tapas place, you should check out Toro. It gets busy, but it has a fun atmosphere and great food.

                            1. Trattoria Toscana has great, reasonably priced Italian. Only downside is it is a bit small and doesn't take reservations, so there could be a long wait for a party of 6.
