Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Affordable non touristy spot needed.

I will be having some friends visiting the city and they would like to stay close to their hotel on Saturday night for dinner. They staying in the 50's on the East Side. Does anybody have any good suggestions that won't break the bank?
