One Breakfast and One Lunch in DC

Hello,

My sister and I will be traveling from LA for a conference this weekend. Most of our meals will be at the convention center (yum) or in large groups with non-'hounds.

We will be taking the red eye and arriving in town at 6:30AM. We have a reservation at the Holocaust Museum at 2:15PM and would like to hit the Newseum at some point during the day, as well.

After reading through the board, it seems like crab cakes are a must. So, we'd love two good non-buffet recs (one for breakfast and one for lunch).

Thanks so much!

    1. The Source at the Newseum has a great Happy Hour deal-3 courses for $20.10.

        1. The Holocaust Museum will take up the rest of your afternoon. There is nothing to eat, good or bad, anywhere near there.

So if you hit the Newseum before lunch, you'll probably want to eat lunch nearby. But I can't think of any crabcakes near the Newseum, although there are many good restaurants within easy walking distance. Rasika is very close, Indian, but in a very Euro restaurant. Get the crispy spinach dish that everyone rightly raves about.

Thanks for your help! Any good breakfast recs? We're staying close to the convention center...

We California girls appreciate your assistance!

I think Saint's Paradise is open for breakfast. It is a purpose-built cafeteria in the United House of Prayer at 6th and M. Look for the gold dome. Quite a scene, not a place to go out of your way for but really, really unique.

Actually, there is a cafe associated with the Holocaust Museum itself. It is not in the main museum building; instead it is located in an outbuilding across a small courtyard. The menu and hours of operation for the cafe are available on the museum's web site. I've eaten there twice. The food is exactly what you'd expect: acceptable and wholly forgettable sustenance. I think I've ordered the tuna fish sandwich.

                        1. Thanks for the recs! And, I just checked the weather and it looks like these California girls will be just fine! It's going to be really nice!

                            1. Excuse me if this has been posted, but Sat. morning is a great time to hit Eastern Market, especially for the crab cakes benedict and the bluebuck pancakes.
Sun morning is great to hit the Dupont farmers market!
