Help! Need an After-the-Opera watering hole.

Am traveling to the city in a few weeks and will be attending the Met. I am hoping that Manhattan 'Hounds might help direct me to a nice place to have drinks/food after the opera. Would prefer to stay on the westside and no lower than the Village, but open to any and all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Matinee or evening performance? Makes a big difference. Relatively few restaurants are open until after midnight.

Evening performance. And looking more for a place with drinks/cocktails than food. A small plate food service would be ideal, but not necessary. Thanks.

I'd go to the Oak Bar at the Plaza, I think it's open til 2:00 a.m. and it's a great New York vibe.

Excellent suggestion, we love the Oak Bar. I'm not sure of the time frame but you could check the front bar area at Picholine.

They close at 11 pm. OK for a short opera, otherwise not so much.

If you're willing to go to the East side...

'inoteca Gramercy, on the corner of 3rd Av. & 24th St., stays open until 1 a.m. This is definitely a good place for drinks/cocktails, and they've got a small plates menu.

But RGR, 'inoteca in that location is so so loud...

....I wonder how late Accademia di Vino is open....?

gos, You are so right about the insane noise level in 'inoteca's dining room. I had hoped that when they turned Cafe Milano into 'inoteca, they would address and mitigate that problem. Sadly, from what I've heard, no such luck! Because of that, we go there only mid-week for lunch or late in the evening supper when the dining room is fairly empty. I have no idea what the noise level is like in the bar room since we've never been in there.

ETA: AdiV's website does not provide their hours. Grrrr... One of my major website peeves! MenuPages says until 11 p.m.

There's also an AdiVi B'way in the old UWS Dock's space. No website though I presume the two are related. MenuPages has the hours. Closing depends on the day of the week.
