Daimo's fried spareribs

I had the fried spareribs last night- they have garlic chips and chopped chili sprinkled on top- and noticed a sort of faint "doughnutty" taste. Not in a bad way. At all. Can anyone explain this to me?

    Salt and Pepper spareribs - probably dusted w/ flour before being fried then tossed w/ chiles, scallions, s&p.

      Right- those are the ones. They almost had a little sweet taste, or maybe smell to them that made us think doughnuts. It was very intriguing.
