Round spots on pan after seasoning...
I just purchased a new cast iron skillet from Lodge. I tried to season it today, but after it was finished "cooking," my pan had two round spots/patches on it. When I rub my finger inside the patches, the pan is rough--the rest of the pan is pretty smooth. Is this something I did? Did I use too much oil? Is there a defect in the pan? Thanks!

blafree,
How did you do your seasoning? Oven? Did you turn it upside down? Anyway, unlike most people, these two spots look like too little oil. Looks like the rest has too a lot of oil and these two spots have little in comparison. I don't think there is anything defect about your cast iron pan.

re: Chemicalkinetics
I used vegetable oil and spread it around the pan with soft brush. I cook it upside down in the oven at 400 F for an hour. After the hour was up, I took it out of the oven and set it on top of the stove to cool. I immediately noticed the spots when i took it out of the oven. Should I use some soap and water, scrub it, and reseason it?

re: bla4free
bla4free,
Do the two spots feel like they are lower than the rest? Because they look lower. I am not too worry about the two spots. If anything, I am slightly worry about the rest. I won't scrub it or reseason it. I would just start cooking with the pan and see what happens. With heavy use, they will be leveled.
