Rosa Mexicano - which one?
We're heading to Manhattan soon, and my husband wants to go to Rosa Mexicano, for the tableside guac and margaritas (and for sentimental reasons). We've always gone to the First Ave location, as it was the only one in existence when I lived there in the 90s, but I can't get a res this coming weekend at that location although I can at the Lincoln Ctr and Union Sq locations.
We've always liked the vibe at the First Ave place. Are the two newer places like that, or are they big and loud? I've been to the Rosa Mex in DC and it's a nightmare - huge, loud and crowded, with an over-the-top water wall thingy.
Thanks for any input.
I haven't been to the one by Union Square but the one by Lincoln Center is exactly that-huge, loud and with a water wall thingy...and it's across the street from Lincoln Center, so it is usually crowded pre-theater.
I've been to all 3 locations and really like the one at Union Square. I always order the queso fundido (melted cheese) and they make it the best there, in my opinion. However, it is large, somewhat loud, and has a water wall thingy as you described, but service is good. The Lincoln Center location is also large and crowded, as the previous poster mentioned. If I had to choose between both, I would go to Union Square. Perhaps you can make an earlier dinner reservation, as it is quieter then?
Thanks to you both for your reply. We were able to get a res at the First Ave location by calling directly. It was as yummy as we remembered, although they sat us in the back room which is a little claustrophobic. In all my years eating there, I always sat in the front left dining room. Live and learn, right?
