new york over easter
i am visiting new york city with my girlfriend for the easter weekend and both of us are big foodies. based on all my research of chowhound and other websites, i have chosen the following restaurants as the places that we might try and visit. i'd love to get some feedback on the choices and would love to get some recommendations of nice bars/lounges near each of them for an after dinner drink. thanks for your help!
friday - convivio
saturday - seasonal
sunday - spice market
monday - aldea / casa mono
the other places that i considered were - pipa, la esquina, maielena. we have chosen to stay away from emp, per se, babbo because they seem over the top.
thanks again!
I would skip Convivio. Maialino is a much better Italian restaurant. But it's a hard reservation to get, so do it soon. Seasonal is a lovely restaurant, in this category I also reommend Blaue Gans, also good Austrian food and a bit more lively. Spice Market is a trendy tourist trap and I'm not pariicularly enamored of the food - what made you chhose it? Aldea and Casa Mono are both very good.

i couldn't get a reservation at maialino and chose convivio based on on some really positive reviews on the board. i had dinner at spice market about four years ago and liked the flavors but you are right, it could be touristy. thanks for the feedback, i'll try maialino again today.

There's a very recent active thread on Convivio with multiple negative comments....take a look. You could also consider Scarpetta or Lupa. I also happen to like Il Bagatto.
