Being logged out of CH multiple times a day-anyone else?

I wonder if it has something to do with the Chow survey that pops up on the right hand side. Last time I attempted to post this question I was logged off in the middle of it...am trying again as the problem persists and am not sure The Chowhound Team is aware. I have easily been involuntarily logged out a dozen times today...

    1. Hi there. Still problematic.

        1. re: kattyeyes

I'm not getting logged off at all, despite numerous cycles of visiting CH and closing my browser throughout the day.

Is your browser set up to use cookies for this site?

            1. re: nsxtasy

I have never had issues being logged off of CH until a couple of days ago. Another of my CH friends had a similar problem the past couple of days as well.

            2. Four days later, this is still an issue. Chowhound Team, care to comment?

What platform are you running? Are you on a PC or Mac? Which OS? Which browser are you using? I strongly recommend Firefox (latest version is 3.6). I have had great luck keeping my computer working well (a PC with XP) by downloading and running C Cleaner - which is free for the downloading. I download from Hippo and you can see the website here:

By the way, for anyone who's not that tech-savvy and isn't sure how to easily find out the answers to all the above - this is a fantastic site: http://supportdetails.com/

Just go there and it'll tell you everything!

Hi, PC with Windows Vista and IE. So you're saying it's not you--it's me? :) It wasn't a problem till this past week. Let me see what I can do on my side to fix this, if that be the case. I asked because someone else I know had an issue, too.

BTW, Servorg, I see you have abandoned the turkeydillo for your Dead roots. ;) "Well, well, well...you can never tell."

The TD still lurks in my download file. He may rear his ugly baconness at any moment!! ;-D>

Good luck with getting off the "log out" train. I can only imagine how annoying that is. (And try Firefox...you may never go back to IE after that)

                          • Yes, I haven't been able to access CH for at least a week - I constantly get logged off. I am currently using a commuter at a community centre where I can access it.

I am on a PowerMac, and use Safari as a browser. I have never had problems with your site before, except once when practically everyone did, several months ago.

Thank you, lagatta. See--the cheese does not stand alone after all! Anyone else?

                                  1. re: kattyeyes

I still have the problem. I'm not on my home computer now. I get logged off the site as soon as I attempt to look at any specific topic on a board.

                                      1. re: lagatta

Yep, I still have the problem, too. :(

It is common for computers with access to the public (such as at community centers and libraries) to not permit cookies to be set. Cookies are the tiny files in the computer where usernames are commonly stored, so they keep you logged on. The inability to store cookies can cause this problem.

                                          1. re: nsxtasy

No, you misunterstood me. I constantly get logged off chowhound on MY OWN computer, at HOME. I went to another computer in order to respond to this and other posts. I have no problem setting cookies on this pther computer. It isn't a public computer; it is a computer belonging to a community association I belong to.

                                              1. re: lagatta

Okay, gotcha, then it's not associated with cookies. So we can presumably rule that out.

Sorry, can't think of anything else...

                                              http://search.chow.com/sso

Visit it once when you return to the site and the site has forgotten you, and then once again immediately after you've successfully logged back into the site. Copy and paste everything between 'start copy here' and 'end copy here' into an email on each visit to that page.

Send it to me at jacquilynne.schlesier@cbs.com, along with your OS and browser versions, and I'll pass it along.

                                                  Hi, Jacquilynne:
Did something change right before you posted above? I ask because since then, I've not been logged out ONCE...and it's the first time I've had "normal" activity on here without being booted in over a week. It's nice to be back, so to speak, but it can't possibly be a coincidence. Just thought I'd mention.

                                                    1. re: kattyeyes

I should've known it was too good to be true--I've been booted twice since my post above. In any case, I sent an e-mail your way with the copied/pasted into and await your advice. Thank you.

                                                    2. This is still happening. New twist: I can no longer "favorite" threads (SAVE TO MY CHOW). Any update Chowhound Team?
