Boom, Cabrito, or Lafayette Grill
6 of us going out casually next Friday. Italian, Mexican or Greek is fine. But we're trying to decide which of these restaurants has an edge for food over the others. Any opinions?

Def Cabrito. Boom? Lafayette Grill? Haven't heard a single good comment about food in either places. They're just sort of 'restaurants'. Nothing notable.

Could not find a way of emailing you directly, but your name often comes up as as good review on places to eat.
Anyway i am coming over from the UK for 5 days in NYC at the end of the month.
Is it possible for you to suggest some "must eat" places that serve excellent food, without the price to go with it? I really do appreciate good food, so anywhere you can suggest of any cuisine will be really appreciated.
thanks :)

My pleasure. Why don't you start a new post with that topic? That way you'll benefit from more than my suggestions. And please tell us what your price range is, which cuisines you like/dislike, or are anxious to try. Where you will be in Manhattan and what you'll be doing; what sort of atmosphere or decor, age group, dress you're interested in having as part of your dining experience.

I've been to Boom and Cabrito once each. Boom was ok - I had one of the pizzas - but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again. At Cabrito, I went at happy hour and had something that involved red snapper and raisins, which was emphatically not to my taste (and seems to be off the current menu). I'd much sooner return there than to Boom, though.
