Drunken Restaurant Photo Identification Request

noahbites Mar 12, 2010 09:10 PM

Hey everybody. A friend of mine took this picture on his phone over the winter holidays. He was drinking, he was in Los Angeles, and he does not remember anything else about where this photo was taken.

Can anyone identify this restaurant?

That looks like the standard giant plate of white rice and bowl of black beans of Versailles...

But is that what the tables look like at Versailles? For some reason the table and the hot sauce are throwing me off.

Versailles has several locations.... so although I don't think they have tables like that in the La Cienega location, I think they might in the Culver City or South Bay location....

Plus the whole I don't remember thing just speaks to the Versailles experience... for the most part, unremarkable.... ;)

That is why I said for the most part... ;) I actually LOVE their Lechon, but don't get the praise for their chicken and most everything else has been bleh to just plain awful... (Cuban sandwich I'm looking at you...)

Versailles is hit and miss... I've had the chicken at times when it is astoundingly juicy and flavorful, and other times (more recently) where it has been dry as a Mojave breeze.

That's why I prefer the roast pork. It is usually very juicy though it can sometimes be fatty.

It looks like a typical cuban bistek.

Being a Silver Lake girl at heart, I'll guess El Cochinito.

Mystery solved! Today, after looking at the info of the photo on my computer (it was taken at 9AM?), and knowing that I hadn't been to Versailles in a while (and when there I get the pork and/or chicken exclusively), and not recognizing the table top or hot sauce brand at all, it hit me: the photo was texted to me, not taken by me, and I had saved it in my phone! Then I remembered my sister was in Miami at that time. Phew! Sorry for the unintentional goose chase, and thanks to everyone for helping me confirm that I'm not a total alcoholic. Cheers!

Was it Puerto Sagua? I swear to God I looked at the photo and thought "OK, that looks like Puerto Sagua but the OP said this was in L.A..." Curious!

So, we're dying to know: Where was it taken? I've been to Versailles in Miami a couple dozen times and that's not it.

LOL. I used to live in SoBe and spent many less-than-sober nights at Puerto Sagua. Fantastic Cuban food. You should go when you're in Miami!
