Looking for good meals in Perth

My husband and I will be in Australia for three weeks starting 26 March. I am looking for suggestions on where to eat (that isn't in the tradional American guidebooks). We will be in Perth for 4 nights from 29 March (no weekend) and really have no idea where to start. The place doesn't have to be fancy, but flavourful, well-prepared food is a must, and a nice view/ambiance a plus. Husband loves seafood and sushi (I need my fish cooked and with a shell).
A couple of years ago we did 5 weeks in Australia, started in Sydney and ate at Rockpool and Quay (Rockpool was a huge disappointment in terms of service and we thought the food over-priced)
Thanks,

I'd like to recommend Palais 85 (http://www.palais85.com/) in South Perth.

I've just had the pleasure of doing High Tea there with a group of friends, and overall I was quite impressed with the place. The quality of items was sublime, great range, and ambiance, decor & view just caps off the experience.

There are a few places you could try, just a few names off the top of my head would be Matilda Bay Restaurant, The Loose Box, Darlington Estate and Star Anise. Perth does have some fantastic restaurants, but it's just a matter of finding them. There are some really lovely places for lunch in the Swan Valley - Jane Brook has a beautiful outdoor dining area that is lovely to sit in on a sunny day. Voyage Kitchen do fantastic lunches, have a deli attached and is located right on the beach (Perth does boast some of the most beautiful beaches in the world) and Soda Cafe, just up the road, also on the beach do good breakfasts and lunches. Enjoy your time in Perth, feel free to ask any more questions, I'm more than happy to try and answer them (long time Perth resident I am).

We only ate a couple of meals in Perth. Nahm Thai is superb, currently our Australian favourite, and we loved Little Creatures Brewery, which does great casual food - the prawn pizza is wonderful.

Recently we have eaten at Pata Negra in Nedlands - great tapas with a buzzy atmosphere, Nahm Thai is excellent for modern thai, Must in Highgate has terrific wine and food - can get noisy on a Fri/Sat night due to proximity next to bar, Duende is a lovely tapas place in Leederville and for a quieter more cosy place would be Divido on Scarborough Road - good food. Hope this helps
