For great Mexican type food (run by Americans) try SALSA on Railroad St.. delicious food, especially the quesadillas. Not fancy but you need a reservation for Friday and Saturday evenings.
We are rarely disappointed with UPPER CRUST on Route 202... good quality Italian food at moderate prices. My favorite is the Lasagna... but the spicy mixed seafood pasta dish is great too.

Adrienne's is amazing. She is constantly creating new dishes. She also teaches cooking classes at the Silo. Her desserts are out of this world, especially the fruit tarts, and she along with the Mayflower Inn actually offer FRESH whipped cream. Any place that does that is 5 star in my book. During the warmer weather, there is a lovely patio out back.
In Gaylordsville, just a stone's throw up is the White Peach (hope it survived the winter) which is nice. The owner/chef had come from one of the large places in the area and has a very nice selection of wines.
59 Bank sucks. Though I take that back a little. A salad I had at lunch recently was actually nice but everything else is just ordinary.

Anybody know if the White Peach did, in fact, survive? I can't seem to find a website or menu online. Darn. I wanted to check it out.
How about Forsythia? That still around?
Heading up to the New Milford Art Festival this weekend and was hoping for a decent place to dine so I am not tempted by the food-on-a-stick fare.

Adrienne's gets good reviews, but I can't vouch for it.
www.adriennerestaurant.comBank Street / Main Street, has a few restaurants (59 Bank comes to mind).
http://www.59bank.com/home.htmI can vouch for the Cookhouse - get your hands dirty ribs / smokehouse place. With good nachos.
All in all, it all depends on what you're looking for. There's a few Italian places (Italia Mia, Johns Best, Rocco's - in Brookfield), a diner (standard CT greek diner), a buffet, etc - so you can go upscale or the complete opposite.

The Cookhouse down on Rt 7 toward Danbury is on of the best barbecue places in CT. CT survey ratings:

I did not know whether to vouch for The Cookhouse or not since it has been at least five years since I've been there. I remember the food at the Cookhouse as good, but not often great. As a Texan, with high expectations for BBQ, I found it acceptable. The steaks were OK. Sometimes the service sucked. This was from at least six experiences there, but a while back...
It would be a good choice if the OP knows, going in, the atmosphere and style of the place. Rustic, restaurant in a barn theme, with concrete floor. In the summer, a big biker's stop. -

It would probably help if you expanded your area and suggest what you like.
You've looked in the archives? There is not a lot in New Milford. It was years ago that I lived there briefly. River Bistro might be worth a shot.
11 miles north of the green is upscale Boulders Inn and Hopkins Inn of Lake Waramaug. I've been meaning to try them.
