Cozy Spot for Casual Meeting & Getting Some Work Done

Have a casual brainstorming session on Monday evening and am in need of a decent spot where we can kick back, set up shop for a couple hours, have a few drinks & get some work done. Ideally off of the 456 below 42nd street, but flexible (crew coming in from Queens and Brooklyn, so want it to be a short-ish commute).

I instantly thought of Penelope [30th & Lex] because of their space but would like something with a decent bar and perhaps happy hour specials.

A lot of my friends do this exact same thing in the comfy lobby of The Ace Hotel: http://www.acehotel.com/newyork

Yes, I love their lobby. I thought of the Ace and am considering it, but find that their seating fills up so quickly. Definitely on the short list though.

If you're considering hotel lobbies, how about the Gramercy Park Hotel? Cozy, comfy, and with a fireplace. In addition to the hotel's own two bars, Maialino, which is located there, has a bar area. I don't drink, so I don't know if there are any "Happy Hour" specials. I suppose you could have your meeting at a table in Maialino's bar area -- not particularly cozy, but relaxing, and I'm sure they will not rush you out. Both the bar menu and the more extensive trattoria menu are available there.

We've been to Maialino several times. Photos of the meal we had in Maialino's bar area can be viewed here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11863391@N03/sets/72157623293302854/
