Food Wars: Detroit's Lafayette vs. American Coney Island

Here's a video link!

Mrs. Sippi and I stopped by for lunch today.

We skipped by Lafayette for American. We're very glad we stopped. We both enjoyed the food and the snap from the natural casings on the dog were incredible.

Went down there and pulled my weigh (plenty of that) for Lafayette. Mark Summers was running the show behind the scenes and Chef Symon in the front. Nothing to special or unexpected happened. I can't say who won because I didn't stay that long, as someone I was with was starting to get antsy and whiny.

I think the name of the new show is "Food Feud.". No info on when it will show up.

Screw it...I am going down there today.

I have nothing better to do today. Taking the kid and try to get his TV debut. Might even get a few Coney's slapped into my system.

Crains reports MS will be in the region on Friday: http://www.crainsdetroit.com/article/...

But, who wants to refute the B-roll FB, mafia...B-roll on a beautiful day in Detroit.. We should all be happy. BTW, I was there at 14h00 and no cameras in sight. But, I'm not FB.

Let me be a heretic here for a moment. Both of these Coney Island diners are iconic. I'll give them that.

            But...

I don't think they do ANYTHING better than a dozen, or 20 other metro Detroit Coney Island restaurants do 24/7. Just my take on the Coney scene in D-town.

My favorite part is the old Greek guys yelling the orders...

After that....I agree...I actually have grown very weary of going to coneys in the last year or so. I am sure it will pass. I still end up at a few...Had two coneys at Platka's a few weeks ago at 2am in the morning...

So, I did my own foodwar test today. One at Lafayette and one at American. I only ordered one at each place and being a rather robust fellow and walking out in front of the windows they realized I was on a mission.... Both places expected a winning vote. The American owner wouldn't give me my change until I changed my oral vote from good to excellent. "I already know we're both good, but I want to hear you say American is excellent". And walking past the window at Lafayette the omnipresent bald guy in the window (in every video) comes out onto the sidewalk and grabs my arm to ask "which was the best?". When I said the weiner's were both good he said "?n*$ the weiners, what about the chili?" In the end it was the chili for me. Beef hearts forever...

Thanks for posting the link houndgirl! I had heard about this, but didn't know it was today. I might've gone to it. By the way, Lafayette is by far the best.

At the risk of having coney sauce thrown at me, I concur with Lafayette!

I will shield you from any sauce thrown...

This is not myself being a hero...this is me not turning down free food!

I rather see them do a SE Michigan Corned Beef Sandwich war!
