New in Town... Great West Valley Food?

I'm new in town from Washington DC, looking for some great food in the West Valley (or really, anywhere). Nothing fancy, just the local spots. I'm talking greasy, mom and pop, neighborhood joints, not chains. A few things I'm trying to find: fast Mexican (had los favoritos, loved it!), Cuban, Greek/Mediterranean, and a Sub shop (big, greasy Philly/East Coast style). Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated!

Don't know how far West you're willing to go, but Flavors of Louisiana has the best cajun food in the Valley, IMHO.

Agreed that Carolina's is mighty tasty too -- best tortillas ever. And also Restaurant 28 does have some pretty good Southern food.

Shish Kebab House in Glendale is decent. Not great, but decent.

Restaurant 28 is a tiny mom & pop place with great soul food. All home cooking made fresh when you order, so it,s not fast, but it,s good. Everything from chicken gizzards to chitlins (sp?) and awesome fried chicken.

I left the west valley a couple of years ago, but I still go back for Dino's Greek & Italian Grill, Grazie Pizzeria at Verrado, and Raul & Theresa's for Mexican. There are some good spots in Old Litchfield by the Wigwam resort, too -- a Mediterranean spot, a brew pub, and a sushi bar. Outside of the resort is a good neighborhood joint called Ground Control, which is sort of a catch-all coffee roastery, gelato spot, small plates, wine shop, with six or eight craft brews on tap and live entertainment on the weekends.

Feel free to do a search -- lots of good ethnic food in Glendale and Peoria.

I never been to the Peoria location of Carolina's, but, the food is consistent at the other locations. You might appreciate.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Any other ideas would be much appreciated! So far my stomach is grumbling about the food in AZ...
