Best Burger Westchester County into Lower Fairfield County

Where, why, what type of meat do they use, what type of bread and is it charcoal broiled, I do not like BSF not my type, I love a thicker better quality and I am the only one in our household that eats them so it isn't that often but I want it to be yummy when I indulge in my burger. Also I love a great all beef hotdog too, so any ideas? I love all these new fancy hot dogs ideas but I like it with just mustard, kraut and relish. Don't want to spend too much but don't need to spend too little for a fast food yucky meat burger. Thank you

  1. Sorry to say there is no answer to this question. If you look there is already a topic for this that has been going on for almost three years. The standards in the board are Blazer's Pub in Purdy's, Squires in Briarcliff Manor, Piper's Kilt in Eastchester, BSF, which you stated that you don't like, as well as numerous others. I go to Blazer's personally. As for dogs I go to So Damn Hot in Valhalla, they serve split-dogs. Here's the link for the great burger battle

    1. Are you looking for a really excellent burger, as opposed to a greasy burger from a joint? Sometimes I'm in the mood for greasy, other times I like a good burger (sirloin meat) on a delicious bun (toasted brioche) with great french fries. My favorite place for that type of burger is Palmer Crossing in Larchmont, but I'm sure there are plenty of other places as well.

I am looking forward to a great sirloin meat burger rather greasy. I love brioche rolls too, anu other suggestions closer to stamford by chance? Thank you so much.

Someone told me that Underhills Crossing in Bronxville has an amazing burger. I've never been inclined to try that restaurant and am wondering now whether I should.

Try Emma's Ale House in White Plains.

They also have an awesome turkey burger with a great chutney

Just had an amazing burger at FAB in Mt. Kisco (topping it with foie gras didn't hurt...), but even without the foie, the burger was wonderful!!

get in the car and drive to peter luger in brooklyn for the best burger in the world. however served only for lunch until 3 PM.

          2. I'm a Piper's Kilt guy, but I have to say I've heard Luger's is the greatest ever. I just can't get myself to go there and not get a porterhouse. Best I've had recently was Jake's Steakhouse. 8oz patty served on an english muffin. Some might not love the muffin, but the burger is fantastic. Just a little heads up in my opinion. Pass on Emma's. Had a burger there a month ago and it was beyond ordinary. It's $12 without any toppings and then $1.50/topping. Add to that the fact that the "fresh cut" fries are about as soggy as a dish rag and you'll be kicking yourself before you leave. Bowl of Soup and a burger cost me $27 before tax and tip.

i used to think I liked Piper's Kilt the best, when it came to burgers. Then I liked Blazers. Then I tried Emma's and they were my favorite. Last week I had a burger at The Tap House in Tuckahoe. I now have my new favorite burger place!

The shortrib sliders are also to die for, but I really think that their sirloin burger is tops!

                1. re: MRS

I also liked the burger at Tap House and they were very accomodating to my SIL who was on a low carb diet and made it without bun and gave her salad instead of fries. And she liked it plain which is a big indicator of how good it was.

I have to try the Tap House. I live right near it and never went in. But RawTunaFan, definitely give Jake's a try if you're in Riverdale. Ask for the frizzled onions if you're into that. Amazing!

              2. So what are the latest raves in burgers? I've been to Porterhouse in White Plains a few times now -- their burgers are very good and their drinks are quite decent.

How does Porterhouse compare to the plethora of burger joints on Mamaroneck Ave.? One in particular was packed, Brazen Fox I think. The schlep to Blazer no longer seems justified.

Oh, and what is Elements? There was actually a server on the street encouraging us to dine there!

                1. re: anonymouse1935

Strictly my opinion, but the burger (the food in general) at Porterhouse was horrible when I was there (twice). Nothing tasted fresh either time and the service was atrocious. Only went to Brazen Fox once and didn't eat, although friends tell me it's actually decent. Lazy Boy Saloon used to have good burgers, but seem to have gone down hill recently. I actually had a good burger at Dunne's, but that was years ago. Everyone raves about Emma's Ale House, but not me. To be honest, tons of places, but no really good burger joints!

Tried Elements on a recommendation. Will never listen to that person again.

                  2. I agree that Emmas Ale House has the burger in Westchester. 10 years ago Piper Kilt was good but has gone downhill over the years. Blazer is ok but i live too far.

                    1. re: scarsdale1234

Did you mean Emma's has the best? Ugh! I'm a Kilt guy, but have to admit that I've liked the burgers I've had at the Quarry in Tuckahoe as much. I haven't been to Blazers because I refuse to travel that far for a hamburger, but would if I was in the area. I know people that went out fo their way for Squires and were greatly disappointed. I think one thing that is killing the burger world is sliders! Everyone loves them, but what to do if you don't enjoy well done?

                      1. re: scarsdale1234

scarsdale1234, Emmas was good, and I haven't been to Piper's Kilt in a long time. Blazer is very good, and I would put it on a par with Porterhouse.

I was curious whether the other places on Mamaroneck Ave. are as good as Porterhouse. Squires is as good as they are too, but again they are a bit away. The Valhalla train place supposedly has a good burger and they are half price on Mondays.

                        1. re: anonymouse1935

anonymouse...just scratching my head. Don't think I've heard any foodie I know say anything as odd as "as god as Porterhouse" as a compliment. What is so good about their burger. I went twice (had to go second time). Burger was cooked medium rare like I asked, but was grey in the middle (both times). It was a sloppy mess the first time and dry as a bone the second. The appetizers we ordered for the table were dreadful (a la frozen food aisle) and the service (which I never cre about as long as the food is good) was dreadful. Plus, last time was 2pm on a Saturday and the place was dead. Not a good sign!

                      2. 1935 - I only go to Mamorneck ave for a cocktail and lately getting too old for that
                        - dont like eating in those bars

                        1. re: scarsdale1234

I completely understand, scarsdale1234. It was an opportune time of the day, and the trip to Blazer was too far, hence the trip to Porterhouse.

                        2. A really good "joint" burger is at Maud's in Hastings. Sit at the bar. Homey place. Very good burger.

                          1. re: menton1

Haven't been to Maud's in about ten years. Used to go weekly when a friend bartended. The place was overpriced, but the food was terrific. Now I hear it's no worse ($$$) than anywhere else and the food is still top notch.

                            1. re: jhopp217

Are we talking about the same Maud's? Prices are now and have always been pretty moderate, IMHO.

                              1. re: menton1

I was actually wrong, I haven't been there in about 15 years. I should clarify my statement. The prices were high for what you got. The portions were very small from what I remember. I thought the food was excellent and well worth it though!

                                1. re: menton1

Looked at the website after and since you mentioned the burger I looked to see how much my favorite (a bacon bleu burger) would be. $11.70!!!! Sorry, but that's expensive for a burger. Not quite as bad as $15 at Emma's Ale House, but about $2-3 more than anywhere else.

A Bacon BlueCheese burger for $9??? Nah.

                                    1. re: menton1

Piper's Kilt, Quarry, Stephen's Green. I don't think any of these places are more than $9.00. I don't know if they do a bleu burgers, but I think a double bacon cheeseburger at Aj's is only $10. The single is $7. I'm not saying it's ridiculous, but it's a little pricey.
