kid friendly that adults can tolerate

We will be in NYC early April, staying at the New York Palace. We will be doing American Girl during the day. I am looking for a dinner place to dine with a 41/2 and 7 year old (pretty well behaved). We would love something non chain and with a bar. We have no problem jumping in a cab. Thanks for any help.

There's also a Landmarc in the Time Warner Center (southwest corner of Central Park), which would be closer to the New York Palace and AGP. Be sure to ask for the cotton candy at the end of the meal!

The good folks at Beacon are also kid-friendly and they certainly have a well-stocked bar.

Have fun and, on an OT note, watch your wallet at AGP (pickpockets, not just the prices!).

Gradisca on West 13th. The food is great and they love, love, love kids.

My fall back joint for kids, without being a "kid" place - is Schiller's Liquor Bar downtown. Simple and tasty international comfort food, and the kids always have fun.
