San Francisco Bay Area

Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the SF Bay Area (including Berkeley, Oakland, Napa, Sonoma, Marin, and San Jose)

Birthday recommendation

My wife and I may be in San Francisco for her birthday.
I would like to find a restaurant for a birthday dinner that is fun, busy and chic with good food.
I am somewhat of a novice at this (using Chowhound) so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Any preference on the type of food and price range?

Let me add a little info that will make this clearer.
We live in Oakland, but may go out of town for her birthday (hence the "may in the original post").
I am not too worried about the budget but under $300 would be good.
We like a variety of food, so there is no real preference.

If you stay in Oakland, there is, of course, Commis. My wife and I both celebrated our birthdays there and loved it. You can both do the wine pairing and still get out for well under $300.
