Craving green chiles [split from http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/692738#5453667]

Davezilla - I miss the green chile too. The closest I've found around these parts is the green chile burrito at Zantigo.

  1. I've never heard of Zantigo. Would you please tell us more about it, including where it is? I'm intrigued.

It's a fast food joint in Bloomington, Fridley and Woodbury. There may be others too.

Interesting, thank you. It doesn't really seem (from the website) to have that Hatch chile vibe going. Still, you've got to get your green chile fix in where you can find it, even in unlikely places, unless you've got the freezer space and commitment to mail order. I also like churchka's idea below to get it as a bowl. Hmmmm. I might have to venture out to the burbs soon (oh! they have a location in downtown St. Paul, too).

TDQ - I doubt it is Hatch, but like I said it's about the closest thing you will find to green chile (stew) around these parts. Occasionally, Cub will have green chile marked as "Hatch" during chile season for a couple of weeks in Aug/Sept. Beyond that, you are correct, mail order is the only other real option.

The chili at Zantiago is not Hatch. The closest I have found in the Twin Cities is Baja Sol Cantina. I've not had a bowl of it, but rather had it on their smothered Burrito. It's not a bad facsimile of the green chili I was able to have when I lived in Pueblo Co.

      2. You can get it as a bowl of chili too. It is pretty good.
