Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Food stores with free samples?

Is it me, or have stores gotten really stingy with free samples? Sometimes I go into Whole Foods and find nary a free potato chip. Does anyone know of places where you can graze a little snack? I know Zabar's sometimes has good stuff, or TJs. Would love any tips, thanks!

    1. Costco and some Pathmarks have samples on weekends. Despaña always has samples of their embutidos.

        1. You may find there are a lot less free samples floating around stores because of the increased attention on the prevention of spreading H1N1 and the like.

            1. A few times I've been in Dean & Deluca in Soho and tried samples of cheeses, juices, and chocolates.

                1. Whole Foods Bowery seems to have them on the weekends. Maybe it depends on when you go. Also Despana always has free samples.
