Bay Area (SF/Oak) folks headed to Downtown Austin ISO Yum
I am a former Austinite (left in 1996 or so) pulling together a list for friends who will be staying near the convention center next week. They are both food lovers and looking for both places near the convention center and a few expeditions in town. Here is the list I have pulled from memory and friends. What am I missing?
I'd love to steer them towards amazing, but for the place near the convention center, tasty and Austinish will suffice. They only have a car for a bit of the trip so trying to build the list of nearby/bussable places too.
CLOSE to CONVENTION CENTER:
Frank at 4th and Colorado
Walton's Fancy and Staple
Moonshine
The Gingerman (for a pint)
Cedar Street (for evening drinks)
FURTHER OUT
Magnolia Cafe or Kerby Lane for late night
Polvo's
La Reyna
Threadgill's
Z Tejas
COFFEE
Who has the best coffee in downtown?
Thanks!
I think your list is a pretty good one. Depending on their budget, I would add Parkside to their Close to Convention Center list. It is on San Jacinto and 6th.

There are some Austin Java sites downtown for Coffee. There is also a Jo's on 2nd and Lavaca.

Thanks to all for your help. I know Austin will treat them right. Been thinking about a meal from Clay Pit a few years back that was nice too. Holler if any of you head west and I'm happy to share :)

I've tried Jo's, Hideout, Halcyon, and Java Jive and like Jo's best for coffee.
I assume they've coming to town for SXSW? Note that SXSW Interactive attendance is up 40% from last year. (30,000 official registered attendees total last year for Interactive, Film, and Music!)
Here's my list of near the Convention Center, tasty, and Austin-ish. I always try to make it out for some Lockhart BBQ or at least try to get out of downtown for at least one meal, but it can be difficult.
