Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in the Greater Los Angeles Area (including Orange & Ventura Counties and SW San Bernardino County)

Good butchers/fishmongers in west SFV?

I have been cooking through "The Complete Robouchon" (great book) and have had trouble in acquiring certain meats.

I have had a hell of a time finding Squab, and other hard to find cuts of beef. John Dory and Spot Prawns have proven impossible to find as well. Looking for some tips on where to find some of the more "exotic" stuff not found at Ralphs.

    1. Try Jim's Fallbrook Market (on Fallbrook). Their meat is excellent and the fish is very good - one of the few places that has real sand dabs.

        1. Bob's Quality Butcher Shop

Whole Foods or Gelson may have squab (a fancy word for pigeon) or spot prawns also try Asian markets such as 99 Ranch.
