Does anybody know where I can find dried licorice root locally? Not much luck at the supermarkets.
Nam Bach Hong on Harrison Ave in Chinatown has some...
any chinese grocery store (c-mart, kam man, wing's etc) should have it in the herbs/dried goods section. in mandarin it is "甘草" pronounced "gan cao". ususally it is sold dried in slices, but some places may have the unsliced root.
The dry goods place in the north end, Harvest food coop, Witches weeds in salem.
The name finally came to me of the dried goods place in the North End: Polcari's, one of the few places in Boston to get green coffee beans if you are a home roaster like me.
I can confirm that Harvest in Central carries it (at least they did last time I looked through the dried herbs 3 weeks ago).
I saw some at WF in the bulk aisle,(spice area-- Frontier brand i think?) but can't attest to the freshness.
