Any good Farmer's Markets in the Encino area?

Moose Mar 6, 2010 10:41 AM

Since I moved from Santa Monica, I miss the Santa Monica Farmer's Market. Was hoping there might be something comparable in Encino.

You should check out Tapia Brothers farm sometime. Tomatomania is probably their best known event, but they do feature some fresh produce and, of course, their pumpkin patch for Halloween is well attended. If you want fresh produce that is actually grown right in Encino then Tapia Brothers offers the only game in town... ;-D>

It's not quite comparable (few are) but there's a Farmer's Market on Sherman Way and Balboa every Sunday morning as well as one in Studio City.

Tuesdays, from 3-8 pm, there's one in Van Nuys in the parking lot behind the Fashion Square Mall. This one's relatively new and not even CLOSE to being like your old SM stomps but it's "in development". See you there?

Steve2 - that Sherman Oaks version has been in the making for two years, and is probably doomed to die. Wrong time, wrong day, etal. By the time the produce gets there, it has been to 2 other markets that day, and thus #3, S/Oaks, is truly the leftovers.
The best market in this part of the valley is the Studio City one on Sunday morning on Ventura Place, between Laurel Canyon & Ventura Blvd.
The only other one worthy is on Sunday morning in Encino at Victory at White Oak, and it does have some merit, and in fact some items not available in Studio City, yet going to both to compare is the only way poster can really determine preferences.
Obviously proximity to home will enter the discussion.

Hmm, clearly, I'm geographically challenged. I DID mean the one on Victory at White Oak. Missed it by "that much". Sorry, thanks for the correction.

I agree with you about the Sherman Oaks version, it's kind of lame but I was hoping it would improve since it's kind of closest to home.

As far as the Studio City market, I've NEVER been able to find anything resembling semi-convenient parking there as it's packed until the very end. At least Encino has that HUGE lot. Well, just trying to help.

Park on Ventura or park in the Vons lot and walk across the street. I went to that market every Sunday for years and never had trouble parking.

The only market that approaches the SM Wednesday market in terms of size and offerings is Hollywood on Sunday mornings, but Studio City is probably the best in the Valley. I also kind of like the Saturday morning Calabasas market, but talk about parking issues...

Parking is no problem at Studio City if 7:45-8:30 am can be a convenient time to go. After 9am, it can be dicey, yet as DU states, the Vons lot on the west side of Laurel Canyon has parking, whether or not convenient for you and your needs I don't know.
