Delivery in North York (Yonge&YorkMills)
There certainly aren't many restaurants within walking distance in this area and we're running out of variety in terms of ordering and looking for something new to try. We often do:
Thai One On (Malay Curry Chicken is awesome but not as good at Avenue location)
Amaya (It was really good when it was new but prices went up and quality down, at least delivery)
The Friendly Greek, Mr. Greek
Szechuan Gourmet (6$ delivery kinda hurts)
I tried Bar Burrito last weekend and it was just nasty so guidance would be helpful! I'm into hearing whatever recommendations people might have but my preference is for inexpensive and exotic, a rare combo in this neck of the woods.
That's my neighbourhood as well, and the delivery options are limited. Here are our go to spots for delivery:
- C'est Bon for Chinese (honestly, many of the dishes are better than you might expect)
- Thai Plate for Thai (much, MUCH better than Thai One on)
- Kabuki for Japanese (this is the place in Bayview Village mall)
- Amaya, but you already know this
Honestly, that's about it other than pizza joints (Mamma's is our preferred delivery pizza). Crazy Sushi at York Mills and Leslie delivers, but their food is not very good, is overpriced and I think there is a delivery charge.

Right on, Thai Plate was good. \o/ Went mostly with chef recommended dishes and will explore more next time; curious about the golden curry and the Tom Yum.
The shrimp spring rolls were pretty awesome as was the green curry chicken. Good hot and sour soup as well. The cold chicken rice paper rolls were good too but I've liked ones with more mint or ciIantro in the past. Really liked the mussels in the chef's recommended combo sea food dish but was a bit disappointed with the portion as does often happen with seafood dishes (3 shrimp, 3 mussels, squid sadly MIA). It's definitely higher quality food than Thai One On for not much more money. I think Thai One On has a few competitive great dishes but overall doesn't quite keep up.
So thanks again for your recommendations y'all. Hopefully I'll be back next week to comment on Tabule.

I recently saw that Paradise Fine Chinese Dining has a very reasonable delivery menu (much cheaper than its regular menu). But I'm not sure what the boundaries are for free delivery.

Walked by Crazy Sushi a little while ago and there was the old Bailiff's Notice in the window. Looks like they are gone. Would be nice to have a good restaurant in that plaza.

I saw that, too! No loss whatsoever. And please, please let there be something decent going in there.

For Chinese, Lee Town Chinese Restaurant on Yonge and Sheppard. Free delivery over $20. Almost no MSG.

What do you recommend ordering from Lee Town, smfan?

Cool, thanks for the suggestions fellows.
I tried C'est Bon once before and wasn't impressed; reminded me of really bland after-bar type stuff to be honest; maybe ordered the wrong dishes. I looked at Kabuki's menu before and wasn't too impressed with the price/value and the weird items like Pizza Sushi full of mayonaise but if you recommend it maybe I'd better try it. I sort of figure anything in Bayview Village is going to be overpriced, plus Japanese is just already expensive whether high quality or not heh. In the same mall, Yen Ching's Chinese food is great, but no delivery, only pick up.
Will have to try Lee Town this week. Also looking forward to trying this Thai Plate!

Thai Plate to me is some of the best Thai in the city...have never done delivery/take out...only dined in but really love their food and the service is lovely too....

Is this the Thai Plate on Bathurst? I've always been curious....

Yep. It's very good. The one thing is that it's not terribly spicy, so if you want heat, you have to ask for Thai spicy.
The people that run the restaurant are super, super sweet (I am starting to realize that Thai people are some of the nicest people in the world).
If I had a choice, I'd still pick Sukhothai for the amazing depth and layers of flavours in my favourite dishes. But for a place that delivers to my house? Thai Plate is just fine. They have a lovely lunch buffet on Mondays and Fridays -- $9.95.

Thanks for the info. I think I just might have to visit shortly. For a closeby spot it sounds good.

Cuisine of India delivers to Yonge & York Mills through www.orderit.ca
Tabule used to deliver to Yonge & York Mills, but not sure if they still do.
I wouldn't judge Kabuki for serving sushi pizza, or any other mayo-happy menu item. Sushi pizza and the mayo-dishes are listed on most moderately priced sushi menus in the GTA, including other decent sushi restos like Nami. They are on the menu because there's a demand for that type of dish. Kabuki's sushi is decent and always quite fresh-tasting, but I find it pricey considering the portion size, which tends to be on the small side for TO. If I'm looking for economical, non-wow-worthy but decent sushi in North York, I usually go to Ichiban Fish House (which is Korean-run, so they include some ban chan freebies) on Spring Garden instead. Ichiban Fish House does take-out, not sure about delivery. Agree with TorontoJo that Crazy Sushi isn't very good.

Tabule's fantastic, and it looks like they deliver as far north as York Mills:

Caribbean Bistro (on Yonge north of Eglinton) also delivers, and is yummy and good value. Not sure what their delivery boundaries are, as they don't have a website.

I'm adding Helena's for Chinese food to the list of places that deliver to our area. I just ordered from the for the first time and I really enjoyed my crispy, spicy, Szechuan shredded beef. The dry sauteed green beans were good, though I did miss the minced pork that is traditionally made with. I'm looking forward to trying more items from here to satisfy my occasional "must have delivered homestyle Chinese food" craving.

Thanks for the tip, TorontoJo! I recently moved to Don Mills and Sheppard and have been desperately looking for decent Chinese delivery.

You're welcome! I actually got the tip myself from another thread on crispy Szechuan beef. I haven't tried anything else, so can't vouch for the rest of the menu. If you do order soon, please report back, as I'd be interested to hear about the other food.

Will do! To confirm, the item you ordered is "Dry Spicy Shredded Beef"?

Yep! And while I thought it was insanely hot when I first had it, the leftovers have been just right. So either I got a whole chile by accident, or the heat mellowed in the fridge.

Thanks again for the tip, TorontoJo. I ordered delivery from Helena's last night and was very pleased with the results. The Dry Spicy Shredded Beef was crispy, juicy and packed a lot of heat. The Kung Pao chicken came with lots of typical frozen veggies (baby corn, carrots, peas, cashews and more), was slightly spicy and very saucy. Surprisingly, the chicken itself was very tender and flavourful; this balanced the strong flavours of the beef. We also ordered the Singapore Chow Mein which was basically yellow curry noodles with chicken, shrimp, bean sprouts, green onions and chilis. I couldn't get enough of the noodles! Delivery was very quick, portions huge, and prices reasonable. I'm so happy that I've finally found good Chinese delivery in the area.

Nice! Glad to hear it. What is with Chinese restaurants and those ubiquitous frozen peas and carrots? They are so useless. Honestly, I'd rather have no veggies than those. :)
Nevertheless, thanks for the report on the other dishes you tried. I want to try their mushu next time, though I'm sad they don't have any pork on their menu, so I'll have to settle for mushu chicken.
Delivery is definitely fast. I actually commented on it to the driver and he told me that he's been delivering for Helena's for 18 years and that he drives "very fast!" Kinda cracked me up.

I would add the only Sushi place in this area that I would order from:
Sushi Bar (formerly known as Dr Sushi) - on Yonge St South of Loblaws N of Lawrence.
Ensure you get the Tuna Tar Tar App (not on the menu) - it is killer.

I'll second Thai Plate for quality delivery Thai food, MUCH better than Thai One On, and personally, I have to disagree with the previous poster, I REALLY disliked C'est Bon... a LOT.
I occasionally enjoy Cynthia's Chinese for old-school Canadian-Style chinese, which is always oily, unhealthy, but Cynthia's is much better quality (and yes, a bit pricey). Dishes we order here are old school egg rolls filled with bean sprouts, and great with their incendiary home-made hot mustard, cantonese noodles, lemon chicken, chicken balls, veg fried rice, chicken chow mein, bbq pork, tai dop voy, beef & broccoli, etc.
We also occasionally order from Sushi One - not outstanding, but decent sashimi, Salmon nigiri, rather good dynamite maki rolls, and I enjoy their fried oysters. (Skip the teriyaki dishes)
Annoyingly, some chains that I've semi-enjoyed elsewhere, seem to have a particularly bad location that deliver to me at Yonge & Sheppard, and sadly there's simply no quality, old-school, mom-and-pop pizza joint within delivery range! My search continues, undaunted!
