Diego's back in Santa Fe?
I heard a very vague rumor that Diego's , formerly at the De Vargas mall in Santa Fe, was either reopening, or the people who ran it were opening a new place.
Anyone know anything about this? Diego's was my absolute favorite for good SW food in SF.
That same spot is run by family members of Diego's and its called Altrisco. The food is really good simple New Mexican , the room has had a makeover, and the service is decent. It is usually crowded because its a good value

Here's the site for Atrisco Cafe. I've eaten there a couple of times now and enjoy the space better than when it was Diego's (less grease smell in the air, cleaner feeling). To my taste, the N NM food is good, not great. It' s near my SF office, so I'm glad it's there. I can't remember the mitote I heard about how this crew is related to that of Diego's.

This TOTALLY made my day - I loved Diego's when I lived in Santa Fe and was so sad to hear that it closed. We're coming for a visit in August and will definitely hit up Atrisco!!!

Just went there for lunch on Wednesday - I hate to rain on anyone's parade, but it was fine, nothing special. The green chile was watery. The beans were nice. The red chile was fine, but not noteworthy. The enchilada trio was on the disappointing side, though the large chunks of chicken in the chicken enchilada were noteworthy for their size (if not their flavor). The sopas were decent and appeared to be whole wheat. Price was pretty reasonable for SF (two of us ate and had soft drinks and $5 tip for under $28). Oh, and the place smelled like grease again - not as bad as when it was Diego's, but my prior praise of the vent fans no longer stands.

Oh that makes me sad! Hopefully they were just having an off night. My old faves at Diego's were their carne adovada and posole, plus their sopas - they had the BEST deep dark honey that no other restaurant in SF seemed to have. We'll stop in for lunch just for old time's sake!

We hit up Atrisco on Thursday for lunch - I agree the that the food is only good, not great, but they still have the AWESOME dark honey for the sopas that I love so much! I wasn't wild about the whole wheat sopas - they were too bready for my taste - but the honey made up for it. Carne adovada was good, and they still make terrific posole. I preferred the green chile to the red, but both were good.
