Love note to Los Comales

Just a reminder that Los Comales on E. 7th is serving up some mighty fine chow! Every so often I get a hankering for a big Mexican steak plate, and I'm never disappointed.

I usually get the rib eye but last night had the Enchiladas Huastecas: a big plate with 2 cheese enchiladas in tomatillo sauce, with grilled carne asada, rice, and beans. The tomatillo sauce was only standard, but all in all it's a great meal.

The steaks--even the thin ones--are grilled perfectly: some charring on the outside, tender inside. They also put a lovely grilled green onion alongside the rib eye.

All served with house-made corn tortillas so you can wrap up your steak as you like. (Flour tortillas are not house-made.)

There's a note on the door saying they're only serving beer for the time being (no liquor). That's perfectly okay, since their margaritas were frozen slushy horrors. The beer is cold and tasty. Very friendly service, festive family atmosphere. Yum.
