Some recommendations for Grand Central Terminal Area

Next week we will be in NY for one week. We will stay at the Roosevelt Hotel in the near of the Grand Central Terminal.
Now I try to find a nice and cosy breakfast place, sth where you can start a good and long walking across NY day :)
I would prefer some bagels, donuts, ham and eggs just the normal stuff for breakfast. Some suggestions?

  1. Daniel's or Ess-a-Bagel for bagels. I prefer Daniel's old-school modest size bagels. Many seem to prefer the super-size Ess-a-Bagel.

Sarge's may be good for breakfast. Maybe someone else can chime in. I've only tried their sandwiches (pastrami), which are very good.

Sarge's makes a great corned beef hash and I think they have a breakfast special during the week if memory serves me correct. Something like corned beef hash, 2 eggs (I go overeasy), bread, homefries and coffee for $10. That should give you plenty of energy to walk the rest of the day.

If you want a bagel, I'd personally choose Ess-a-bagel on 50th (or 51st) and 3rd. Or if you feel like dealing with Times Sq., Times Sq Hot Bagels on 43rd and 7th are pretty good for the area. If you want a good bagel, avoid all the generic delis in the area. All their bagels are mediocre and taste like rolls.

Inside Grand Central is a new Financier if you decadent pastries. There is also a Joe the Art of Coffee in the Lexington Passage for the areas best coffee.

Great suggestions! Love Joe and Financier. Neither has seating space, but you can go down to the lower level GCT Food Court and sit down. For coffee I also like Macchiato on 44th. Perhaps even a nose better than Joe and they are so cool in there.

    2. The Comfort Diner - other side of Grand Central Terminal - 45th St. bet. 2nd & 3rd.

Oops. Sorry to hear it. Haven't been down in that direction for a while. Thanks for the update.

        1. Thanks to all, we will try some of them next week :)

          1. Ess-A-Bagel if you want a great bagel with all the trimmings.
Scotty's Diner on Lex bet 38 & 39 makes a nice breakfast that won't break the bank. 24/7
Penelope if you feel like walking down to Lex and 30 St is excellent
Sarge's is a good choice too and open 24/7
