Portsmouth Brewery's "Kate the Great" R.I. Stout

Anyone ever try it? Ebay's got it for a hundy per bottle.

I've had KtG on a number of occassions (mostly before the hype hit 2-3 years ago and only a few times since then). Its a great beer but, no beer is worth that kind of money - no matter how much you really, really, really HAVE to try it. <insert eye roll emoticon here>

Find an imperial stout on your local beer store shelf for less than $10 for a bomber - I am sure you will enjoy it just as much - and be able to buy more if you do.

Oh, I'm a stout lover from way back.

A friend waited in the four hour release day line recently to try it and I was just wondering if it was a colossal waste of time. He's definitely one of those "So I can say I've tried it" guys.

Was he one of the crazies who were in line before 4am for bottles, or one of the crazies who started lining up at 7:30am for the 11:30am to have a glass in the bar? :)

It is quite tasty, but all it takes is a gander over at the beer advocate forums to see that opinions vary quite a bit regarding the upper echelon of imperial stouts.

It's definitely not worth the cost that you'll see on eBay. Heck, I overpaid at $30/btl for my westies.

He was a 7:30 guy. I was happily asleep.

Heh. We got up at 6 and saw that they were already out of calendar pages and said F it'. Walked by around 7:30 on the way to friendly toast and saw an already growing line for the 11:30 tapping and said F that too :)

It's a great stout, with a tremendous depth of flavor. Don't think I would pay that much for it, however.
