Chinese in Red Deer?

l
Lucki Mar 4, 2010 09:43 AM

Are there any decent Chinese places in Red Deer? I'm meeting up with a friend who moved to Norther Alberta and she's been craving good Chinese since she's left Calgary.

If there aren't any decent Chinese places, we'd also accept recommendations for kid friendly non-chain restaurants.

Thanks!

I havn't tried Red Star yet either, I always get distracted by the sushi, but I have lived in Red deer for 10 years, and still have not found good chinese. SO I gave up. ESpecially with such tasty vietnamese, thai, and indian offerings, who needs it? Pho tho duong, Noodle house, BLue dragon, Phili thai, and the 49th street Tandoori grill are all tasty. Add to to that, Las Palmeras, for mexican, Its all greek to me, and a Donair from King Donair down town, and I really don't miss it. If you want good chinese food, go to Brooks, no joke..

I agree on Red Star. The chef is a Red Seal and it has a great view overlookng downtown and a wooded area. The portions are a little small and the prices a little higher than most. My second choice is the Jackpot Casino. Excellent portions and prices. If we do take out, this is the one we use. If you are north of the river, New Year on the NW corner of 67th and Gaetz is excellent. Haven't been in there for a while as I tend to use Jackpot and Red Star.

I've heard Red Star is quite good. Never been myself.

There's always Glenn's family resturant that is very kid friendly at gasoline alley

I've heard the same about Red Star, but so far we've only tried a western chinese place here in Sylvan Lake. For kid friendly in Red Deer - Las Palmeras is pretty good Mexican, although nearly as brightly lit on the restaurant side as a Taco Bell...and at the other end of Gaetz there's The Ranch House, it won't wow... kinda reminded me of a Keg? Saw loads of families last time we were there. TRH is rather popular though so you may be looking at a 15-20 min wait.
