I've never had a steamed bun, but I'm somehow craving them. Probably from watching Bourdain eat them last night. Does anyone know where I can find good bao in Greenville, SC? Saigon Fast Food maybe?

I don't know about Greenville but if you get over to Spartanburg go to 'Asian Grocery Store' at 1272 Asheville Highway (tel: 864-598-0890). This is very large Asian food store and they undoubtedly have frozen steamed buns. Also attached to the store is the 'Seven Moons Asian Restaurant' which serves Thai, Japanese, Cambodian, Vietnamese and Chinese dishes at excellent prices. They might have fresh steamed buns.

Asian Grocery Store on Asheville highway ( Seven Moons) does have excellent fresh steamed buns. Went there today and picked up one, along with a pork banh mi, for lunch, for less than $5. Both were excellent, with the banh mi filled with Cha, Thit Nguoi, spicy homemade mayo, cilantro, pickled daikon and carrot, and some chilis, on good bread. The bun was packed with meat fillings and hard boiled egg. Great grocery store also. Restaurant also good and cheap.
