Just read a review on Fish Market. Owner used to work at Oishii. Anyone go yet?

  1. i haven't been but one of (my favorite) bartenders at Deep Ellum has and said it was awesome, especially the avocado ball.

    it's on my Must-Try List.

    1. Yeah, Allstonian and I have been, and highly recommend it. The chefs' knife skills are particularly good: everything we got was just perfectly cut, which makes a big difference in sushi quality.

        sweet.

      2. I've had takeout once (the big "sushi deluxe" platter or whatever) and I will agree that the cuts are fairly pleasant (I can't stand the slabs at Super Fusion) but I didn't find the fish particularly clean- or fresh-tasting. In that atmosphere/price range/geographic area I'd recommend Genki Ya.

          Totally agree with Luther's critique.

I went based on wonderful reviews in yelp and probably wouldn't come back. Every roll around $2 cheaper than Oishii but fish isn't as fresh, ingredient isn't as high quality, and serving size isn't as generous. Unless getting to Oishii is a problem, why bother going to a copycat that's simply isn't as good, IMHO?

            2. Met a very well heeled major foodie/ Asian afficianado tonight at Bondir, and he scoffed when I told him CHs were down on this place. He thinks it's top notch and the omakase a great deal. (and he's eaten plenty at Oishii.) Barmy, do you still love it? others out there? thanks much.

i like it very much and have said so often. also think it's an extremely well-priced option.

I agree it is a great option for eat in or take out, though lunch is best for eat in as it is small and gets packed at night. The fish is fresh and the price point competitive. Sakanaya closed at 4 for a supplier meeting the other day, and I headed right over to the Fish Market without hesitation. Their fish is fresh and expertly prepared. Maybe a notch below Oishii (CH), particularly in terms of special fish variety, however a better value for the price overall.

I get take out from Fish Market all the time and think that the quality is excellent. I have never actually eaten in the restaurant but it looks very clean when I pick up which is a huge plus for me in sushi spots!
