My wife LOVES ice box cake. Her 40th B'day is coming up. Want to get her a great ice box cake. Any recommendations?

Magnolia bakery does some nice ones. Never been disappointed in their ice box cake (dislike their cupcakes).

I've seen them at Billy's Bakery as well, though I can't attest to the quality (I've actually been waiting to try one for a while, but am saving it as a celebration treat...). Perhaps also Sugar Sweet Sunshine (lower east side).

Thanks. Sadly, she's had it and was not impressed? I think she has an ideal from childhood in mind that will be hard to match...

If she wants the ice box cake from her childhood, buy a box of Nabisco famous Chocolate Wafers and some whipping cream and follow the recipe on the box! It's really easy!

It is super easy, but I haven't seen those cookies/wafers around in a long time. Anybody know where to get them in NYC?

Another vote for their ice box cakes.

What is an ice box cake? Do you mean an ice cream cake, or is "ice box cake" a NY thing I haven't heard of??

You know, if I had read a question asking how to make an ice box cake, I probably would have thought of the Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafer Roll of my childhood. It just never occurred to me that restaurants or bakeries made them to sell!!

Hmmm -- I was wondering what to take to my sister's Oscar Party -- maybe that's the answer. Thanks!
