Thai in Bergen County ?

Hugh DeMann Mar 2, 2010 06:13 AM

We really like Pimaan in Emerson (or is it Westwood), but it's quite far from our home. Are there any comparable Thai restaurants in Bergen County?

Bergen County is big, and I live far away from Emerson. I'm looking for a good Thai restaurant further west.

Ridgewood is west of Emerson. A couple of decent choices there: Malee at the RR station, and Ridge on Chestnut.

Perhaps you could better identify what town you live in?

In the Hackensack area there are a few options. My new favorite (thanks to this board) is a little hidden place in a strip mall on Passaic ave. in Rochelle Park called Ruby Siam. This small unassuming place serves great food. On our last trip we loved the drunken noodles with shrimp and the crispy duck salad. Another solid spot is Bangkok garden in Hackensack on main ave. Right down the street is another place called Wondees which I have heard is very good thai as well, but have not tried them as of yet.

How about Dee's Thai in Pompton Lakes?

True, but likely closer to "Western" BC if Emerson is a trip.

Yes, it's still a mystery as to what town the OP is in or near.

Here is a list of all of the Thai restaurants that I'm aware of in Bergen County:

          Pimaan - Emerson
          Ridge Thai - Ridgewood
          Taste of Thai - Ridgewood
          Malee - Ridgewood
          Wondee's - Hackensack
          Bangkok Garden - Hackensack
Lotus of Siam - Rochelle Park
          Thai Chef - Hackensack
          Ploi Thai - Rutherford
          Penang - Lodi
          Spring Grill - Rutherford

I'm probably missing a few, but that should be a good starting point.

Real Thai Cuisine (formerly Siam Ruby Cafe) in Rochelle Park is great. Good food, great prices. Wondee's in Hackensack is also good, but I find the location to be a lot less convenient than Real Thai.

Here's one I'm wondering about, but I'm too weirded out to actually try it until I get some recommendations. In the strip mall next to the Shop Rite in Fair Lawn is a bagel place. They used to be called Sam's Bagels, and they were around probably a solid ten years or so. I see that the name has changed, and now they offer bagels AND thai food.
(What a combo!) Has anybody actually tried the thai food? Is it good? How are the prices? Thanks for any information!

all of the various numbers that i found for sammy's bagels are disconnected. might it be just a thai place now? this is intriguing.

Haven't been there in a few weeks, but if I recall correctly, the main signs still advertised bagels. The thai food signs were handwritten, I believe. Very strange. I may have to bite the bullet just because it sounds so weird, it should be interesting!

Sounds like the rec above for Pompton is the closest to you, even though it's another county. I can't speak for the place personally, but sdenred seems to like it.

Anyone ever been to Pawana in Englewood? It's in the old Thai Chef space, gorgeous place, but it's ALWAYS empty. How do they persist in business?
