Lizarran Cuisine of Spain in Gilroy?

Melanie Wong Mar 2, 2010 12:37 AM

Yesterday I had to make an unexpected detour through Gilroy to buy some synthetic oil at Kragen. My mother was with me and since it's been some time since we'd been through town, we decided to head south on the Monterey Hwy. At one of the stoplights in downtown, a lovely old building marked as "1905" also had a variety of signs indicating that the restaurant it houses, Lizarran, is now open for business. When I got home and looked it up, apparently this is a Spanish chain of tapas/pintxo bars, based in Barcelona. Fullerton is home to the first US location; another will open in Manhattan. The others are all abroad. According to Fullerton's FB page, the Gilroy Lizarran opened in November.

Has anyone tried the Gilroy branch yet?

Why Gilroy and Fullerton, I have to wonder?
Perhaps you should also post on the general California board.

I'm having some regret that I didn't stop in for happy hour, since we were passing through at 5:30pm. I've looked at the posts on the LA board about the Fullerton branch already. And I'm getting the sense that Grupo Lizarran isn't considered top quality in its homeland, but I'm still interested in trying the domestic version considering there isn't much Catalan to be found in the greater Bay Area. Gilroy is in Santa Clara County and discussed on this board.
