Rehearsal Dinner Restaurant Ideas?

Hi all,
My fiancee and I are looking for suggestions on a restaurant in the LA area where we can have our wedding rehearsal dinner. Ideally, we'd find a place that could seat 50 or so in a private room or patio (patio a plus, our date is July 30). We are considering a wide range of cuisines, and are by no means limited to "traditional" ideas. One concept we are tossing around is finding a Mexican restaurant that could do a private party, and hiring mariachis. But we are open to anything - your suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Ben

  1. My mom recent went to a party at Guelaguetza on Olympic that sounds like what you are considering. She said the food, drinks and music were fabulous, and it was held in a back room or patio area.

I too considered Guelaguetza on Olympic for our rehearsal dinner this summer, but it's actually not terribly well suited to such an event. It's too loud, and from what I could tell there's not really a discrete enough space to have a semi-private dinner. Best of luck! Interested to hear what you find...

I had my rehearsal dinner at El Cholo on 11th and Wilshire in Santa Monica, we had the entire upstairs and there were about 40 people there. They were really nice, set up the menu exactly as we wanted it, gave us green-corn tamales free, and kept topping up the margarita pitchers for free.

It's a little hard to give you good recommendations given how huge LA is. Could you narrow it down (maybe by where people are staying)? Valley, South Bay, Westside, Mid-City, SGV, Orange County, Oxnard/Ventura, Inland Empire?

      1. Hi, Das Ubergeek.

We are considering El Cholo for our rehearsal dinner as well, and will have about 40 people. Questions for you:

        1. Which menu did you do? They seem to have two of them...one which includes a salad and dessert, the other that does not.

        2. Did you customize the menu, or just take it as-is?

        3. How did you get the free green corn tamales??

        Thanks for your help!
