Well we finally got around to visiting here since the change. For the last few years our problem with this place is that the food was often inconsistent, some dishes were amazing and others just ok. We hoped that the new chef might change that. But at our dinner here on 2/19/10 the food was just as inconsistent as always.
The service was excellent as it almost always is here.
Here is what we ate:
They dinner started with an amuse bouche, a small cup of velvety Vichyssoise with salmon and crispy fried potatoes. This was the most delicious dish of the evening. They should add it to the menu.
Hog Island sweetwater oysters on the half. Excellent
George's ahi tuna tartare habanero infused sesame oil, Asian pear, pine nuts, mint- this was excellent.
Warm Bloomsdale spinach-wild mushroom salad smoked bacon-aged sherry vinaigrette, rye croutons- One of the worst salads in recent memory. The spinach was not even warm and the salad was overall poorly balanced. Difficult to imagine how something with bacon tasted so boring.
Maine lobster cake satsuma tangerines and fennel salad, yellow curry aiol- The flavor of the lobster came through nicely and paired well with the curry. Excellent.
Prime rib of Idaho pork, honey mustard glaze... This dish was completely forgettable and mediocre. The pork was somewhat dry and the rosemary seasoning was overwhelming and bitter.
