Heaven Star Closed? Say It Isn't So

The good news in Westword's February rollcall of restauarant openings and closings ( is that there were more of the former than the latter. The bad news is that Heaven Star is in Westminster is among those reported to have closed. I'm in denial. What's the story?

  1. New owners and new name ("New Port", for some reason), but otherwise same as before. I went Saturday and didn't see a lot of difference - a picture menu and perhaps a little improvement in service were the only things that jumped out. No need for panic!

Good to hear—but any news on the new owners? Any track record?

If the kitchen crew is the same, the odds are that it will still be good.

I have heard that it is both a new owner and a new chef, but cannot verify.

      2. I've been there 2 or 3 times since they changed names. Strangely, the first day their sign said "NEW PORT" and then the next time I noticed the space in the middle was gone so now it's "NEWPORT" (all one word).

The food remains the same, and they still have the same wait staff. Dim sum prices remain low.

My Chinese coworkers (living in Westminster for 3 months) take me there about once a week, so I've branched out to try a lot of new dim sum dishes there that I've never had before. Overall, they think it's the most authentic Chinese food in the area, though there are some things they say aren't nearly as good as in China, such as the pig's blood.

Finally, Newport is in Broomfield, not Westminster.
