FrutiTaco (was Fruti Mundo) in Spring Valley
We went here with a friend who recommended it and had a great meal. Definitely the best Mexican food I've had in my 2 months here in San Diego. Upon arriving the first thing you see is the grill set up in the parking lot next to the front entrance. It's kind of like having street food but in a sit down atmosphere which is really very casual. Everything is cooked to order and very fresh. Started with the ceviche botana (kind of a tostada). The fish and shrimp were very fresh and the ceviche was nicely flavorful. Great with the nice crisp corn tortilla. For entrees we had the tacos (asada, pollo, and adobada) and the mulita de harina con adobada. The pollo taco was just OK but the asada and adobada versions were grilled just right, tender and juicy. I had never had a mulita before but the flour version was bigger than I had anticipated and very filling. Cheese and cilantro accompanied the adobado and the taste was great if not a bit problematic to eat. Just used my hands basically. Also, they have very fresh and tasty fruit drinks (tried the mango and strawberry) and a great horchata with a nice flavor of nutmeg. Some of the best horchata I've ever had.
Owners William and Gloria (both Columbians) bought the restaurant 6 months ago because the owner was getting out and because they loved the food. They both work extremely hard to keep things rolling while the maintain their day jobs. They are both very friendly and interested in hearing your opinions on their food and suggestions if you have them. They simply want their customers to be as happy with the food as they were when they were coming here as customers.
