Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in DC/Baltimore and Suburban Virginia

Seeking Low Key Bar, Coffee Shop for Meetup

Planning a meet up for a group of (10-20) guys for a Friday night. Looking for a place where we could meet for drinks, coffee, or a really inexpensive bite to eat. The meeting could become a regular thing every other week. A place that is not crowded would work best because we would like to have conversation as well as an occasional speaker. Not looking for something corporate feeling or stuffy. Need to be in NW. Must be LGBT friendly, but not necessarily gay.

Since I'm new to DC, don't know any places. Thought I'd check in with the Chowhounds to see if you guys could up with some ideas. Please help.

Thanks!

    1. Maybe the basement in Cafe Collage? It's a very low key place and a good location. I am not 100% sure it's big enough for 10-20, but you should look into it.

        1. Try the downstairs at Teasim in Penn Quarter.

            1. Thanks. I'm going to call these two places today to see if they will work for us. I'll check back in. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate any more recomendations. Thanks!!!!!!

                1. Mackey's Pub on L near Connecticut might work. It can get really crowded around happy hour but it's not a night spot, so it may be manageable after eight. It has a spacious back and patio, and moderately priced acceptable pub food. Standards on draft, not for beerhounding, but the atmosphere is great.

                    1. Tryst would be a good fit for this type of thing.

It would be pretty hard to find space at Tryst for 10-20 people on a Friday night. That place gets super crowded on the weekends and it certainly wouldn't be quiet enough to have a speaker.

                          • I would go to Bread and Brew in Dupont Circle. They have coffee, beer, food etc...pretty much everything you are looking for. The downstairs area would probably fit your needs. It's a pretty large group so you might want to call ahead and give them a heads up.

It's a great place though with free wi-fi, friendly staff, green-friendly with a nice neighborhood vibe.
