Pupusas in Queens

saria Feb 28, 2010 01:06 PM

I'd like to know if anyone knows of any good places, be they restaurants, stands, or trucks, for pupusas, preferably on the 7 or N line, though any Queens recs are welcome. Thank you!

Izalco on Roosevelt between 64th and 65th St has papusas which I like (but I have no idea if they are 'good')

El Comal on Hillside Ave. in Jamaica specializes in papusa.

I wanted to let everyone know that Viña del Mar in Jamaica makes the most amazing pupusas! I had seen serious eats recommend it so I thought I would check it out along with El Comal. We ate way too many at Viña to get to El Comal.
Today I tried Izalco, since it's much closer, and there is just no comparison. Viña del Mar's pupusas are perfect and far superior. The masa is much better, pressed more thin and slightly crisped. Izalco's masa was very lackluster, and the filling not as good either. Viña's filling is a much better balance of flavors (Izalco's were almost too tangy).
I will still try out El Comal and some other Salvadorian restaurants in Jamaica, but these are truly perfect, dreamy pupusas!

I'm visiting Queens from out of town this weekend and would love to try Viña del Mar in Jamaica! Do you have an address, or crossstreets?

              8952 146th St
              Jamaica‎ NY

It's very easy to find once you get off the F train at Sutphin Blvd. It's a few blocks away.
It's a tiny place with very friendly, warm service.
