Romantic restaurant for a birthday date (Theatre district and surrounding area).

My girlfriend and I will be in Manhattan for her birthday and I am trying to plan a very nice romantic dinner followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride through central park. Seeing as how we are from Toronto finding a place to dine is quite difficult. We are staying just off of 49th and Broadway so any cute, romantic, very close seated restaurant recommendations within the theatre district would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks so much.
Paul.

Knowing your cuisine preferences and your per person budget for food only (drinks, 9% tax & 20% tip additional) would enable us to give you the most appropriate suggestions. That said...

There are not a great many "cute, romantic" restaurants in that area. The place I think comes the closest would be Seasonal Restaurant & Weinbar, on 58th St., b/t 6th & 7th Av. Open a little over a year, it has deservedly received a Michelin star. The Austrian cuisine served there is superb, there's an excellent wine list, and service is very friendly and attentive. The space is medium size, has very nice decor (but no frou frou), and the lighting is at a level that provides a romantic feel. They have several booths, which, I think, are cozier than a free-standing table, and whre you could sit side-by-side. When you reserve, tell them this is a special occasion and mention your seating preferance.

Photos of our dinner at Seasonal, including shots of the interior, can be viewed here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11863391...

Happy Birthday to your girlfriend! I hope you have a wonderful visit to NYC.

Try Chez Josephine on West 42nd. Romantic atmosphere, and decent French food.
