an ode to New York

coasts Feb 26, 2010 12:27 PM

imagine for a minute living somewhere else...we had some snow today in New York. my office was closed, so i took advantage and headed out for a day of good eats.

first stop was to caffeinate myself...i hit Stumptown for a shot of the freshest espresso this side of Colombia. after a quick smoke (coffee and cigarettes, mmm), i popped into Breslin for a Baked Cheese and Ham sandwich and a side of Beans in Pork Fat. it tastes as good as it sounds.

after trying more than one of each of their cask ales, and with a belly full, i headed towards home, but not before stopping at Fairway to pick up dinner. i'm about to start cooking a Bolognese sauce for pasta tonight...seared scallop appetizer. depending on how the gf made it through her day, we may end up at the Wine and Food Expo.

dog bless this city. is there really anywhere else worth living?

Love, love, love this post. And yes, "coffee & cigarettes, mmm," is right. What did you think of the ham & cheese @ The Breslin?
Sounds like the perfect day to me. Thanks coasts!

The ham and cheese was really very good. I'd have been happy to get some greens on the side, as the sandwich is on the greasy side, but that wouldn't stop me from running back to have it again.
